Residents from the town nearby discovered the animal the next morning ... alerted by its trumpeting calls. The elephant had collapsed from exhaustion while trying to climb out of the pit. The townspeople brought a backhoe to help it out. With the help of some heavy machinery and a little creativity, the elephant was freed and went on its way.
