The exact cause of Nyan htoo’s condition was unknown and a 2016 surgery to remove excess tissue failed to stop the swelling. An international team of animal welfare experts and surgeons travelled to Myanmar where Nyan htoo and his brother Kan htoo were staying in a monestary. The team worked with local vets to operate on Nyan htoo, and the lucky moon bear is apparently recovering well and is on his way to live a normal, playful life.
